Do I need to complete anything before the appointment?
Please complete the Initial Assessment Form that will be emailed to you prior to the appointment. This should take no longer than 10 minutes.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to complete administration. Bring any X-rays, ultrasounds or investigations relevant to the area of treatment. If you have had blood tests in the last 12 months, it is helpful if you can bring copies of these, especially if you are coming in for a chronic pelvic pain issue (such as vulvodynia). It is also helpful to bring elastic-waist gym shorts or pants to make assessment of the pelvis easier.
What does the first appointment involve?
Your initial consultation is 45 minutes. The appointment is divided into 3 sections: the ‘’discussion’’ (taking a history, and clarifying the details of your problem), the ‘’checking’’ (the physical examination, which depending on your problem, may include checking your joints and muscles, checking your abdominal muscles, doing a vaginal examination and/or using an ultrasound externally and the ‘’treatment’’ (which includes an action plan for your recovery).
Can you keep my doctor/specialist informed?
We always write a letter to the doctor who referred you with the details of the assessment and treatment plan. Please indicate if you prefer that we do not communicate with them.
What if I have my period on the day of my appointment?
Normally this is not an issue. Even if we had an internal (vaginal) examination planned, there are other important assessments we can do if you are bleeding heavily. If you are not bleeding heavily, it is fine to do a vaginal examination as long as you don’t mind. Any internal assessment is entirely your choice.
How many appointments will I need?
On average, our patients visit us 5-6 times over a 9 month period, this will depend on a number of individual factors and may vary.
Can I claim physiotherapy services?
Yes, you can claim through your private health fund extras. Physiotherapy is not covered under Medicare although you may be eligible for an Enhanced Primary Care / Chronic Disease Management program. Speak with your GP regarding this. The rebate only covers a portion of the consultation, so there will be some out of pocket expense. Payment of your account is to be paid in full on the day of your consultation and the rebate ($63.40) can be obtained on the spot via TyroHealth or by taking your receipt into Medicare. You cannot claim your consult through Medicare AND Health Insurance. Only one form of rebate is allowed.
What is your cancellation policy?
We kindly ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to reschedule. Late cancellations (on the day) or no-shows will incur a fee of $50 because someone else could have used that spot (and trust us, they really want it!).
